05 maxima broken frame member stud in front
I broke a frame stud in the right hand side (passenger) side member closest to the radiator. Living in a salt state (cold) most of the bolts on this car rust to the point the threads are gone. the other 3 bolts came out without breaking but do not look great.
I am looking for feedback on the best method to fix the broken stud. I have seen a few methods that others have used to fix this problem. I have not been able to find just the stud and the options seem to be a salvage yard or new part from dealer. both are about $150 but require surgical cutting and splicing to make work. Another method is to weld new threads onto an existing bolt but I am not sure if this would be strong enough. I do have a professional mig welder to use if needed. The Nissan part that includes the stud is (partcode:74802N) member-side, front RH, part # 75110-8J030. Ideally if anyone knows where I can get just the stud I could cleanly cut into the existing member to extract the broken stud and replace with new. Afterward I would weld it back to new. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |
