Stay tuned. Even as I write, I am stranded in Tennessee with my 2006 Maxima in the shop with electrical problems. It started with problems similar to what you describe...in addition the heater controls were dead. On the first visit to the dealership, they said they found a loose connector behind the main instrument pod, and if it happened again they would replace the pod.

Well, it did happen again...but this time there was smoke emanating from behind the display panel in the middle of the dash. In addition to all the problems I had before, I now could not operate the wipers, get the headlights on high beam, the tranny was locked into second gear....and when I stopped the engine, it would not restart.

The local dealership is still trying to figure out what is going on. I called the service folks at the dealership where I bought it, and they said they have had instances of coins falling into the cracks at the base of the center display and then shorting out the electrical system. This sounds incredible to me, but we will see what the final diagnosis is. If that coin thing is the answer, then that's a pretty lame flaw in the interior design.

Will post the outcome when I know...

i'm sure its probably fixed by now, but i have seen this. the meter ac amp is located directly beneath the driver display screen and if there are coins laying on the trim panel they can fall directly into the control unit. the slot looks like a piggy bank slot (only not intended for coins). one in a million chance of it hitting that exact spot, but it happens. personaly i'd tape over it or no more change laying up there. good luck.

The local dealership says my problems are due to coins falling into that small slot in that electrical module as described by Nissandoc, although it is really hard to imagine how both a penny and a dime found that small slot in the top of the module.

Nissan has refused warranty coverage. I think it is a known design problem and they should be responsible. If they knew, they should have posted a warning somewhere on the vehicle or in the owner manual.

That is the same problem I'm facing right now on my 06 Maxima! I'm here in Texas and I was just told by the dealership, about my ac meter amp being shorted out and now needs to be replaced. It's going to cost over $500 to replace this dam thing. Sadly enough I do remember just the other day watching a penny slide between the display and the trim, as I was placing my cell phone on the dash before I started my car. Hopefully this solve my problem!

They can't post a warning for every possible issue.
If they did I would imagine it would say "don't leave coins where they are not meant to be".
