rear brake sticks
I have a 2001 Maxima with 98K miles. I noticed that the drive side rear wheel is hot. Too hot to touch. I pulled the wheel and the brakes are tight against the rotor. I removed the caliper and screwed the piston back a few turns and re-assembled. The problem recurred a few weeks later. I'm assuming I need to replace the calipers (and piston). Just want to make sure I'm not missing something easier. Is it possible the slides aren't working? I know on the fronts that the wobble of the rotor pushes the piston back. What pushes the rear piston back since it's on a screw?
If I replace the rear calipers, do I need to bleed the front brakes? Thanks in advance. |

you should bleed all the brake lines.
did you apply grease to the slider pins? |

I did not apply any grease on the old ones. Do you think that might cause the caliper to keep from retracting?

Well, I replaced both rear calipers two years ago. No issues until two weeks ago - the driver's side rear locked up again. I turned back the caliper piston a few turns - brake fluid leaked out around the seal when I did that. Is that an issue?
Also, what type of grease is recommended for the slider pins? Brake Grease? Gear grease? Lithium grease? TIA |
