I'm new to the forum and trying to figure out how to post a question. I have a 2001 Pathfinder, the speedometer, odometer, and cruise control do not work with a service engine soon. A Nissan dealer in Syracuse NY said the speedometer gears are stripped and can only be fixed by replacing the transfer case, $1200 to $2000 for a used case. I had another mechanic look at it and he said he didn't know how the dealers service mechanic could have known the gear was stripped as it has not been removed and is froze in place. I need some suggestions on how to proceed with this problem. My Pathfinder is in pristine condition as it has never seen a winter (in storage during the winter) and right now I have a $4000.00 piece of junk as it can't pass inspection with the engine code displayed.
