Angry Defective Front Struts

Bought a used 2014 Sentra SR on July 14, 2017 with 43,482 kms (27,000 miles). It looked and drove great. Within a month a popping, clunking noise started coming from the front end when the steering wheel was turned at low speed and even when stopped.

Dealer finally determined that it was a manufacturing defect addressed by Nissan in service bulletin NTB14-088b issued on April 15, 2015 that applies to LEAFs, Jukes, and Sentras manufactured in MEXICO from 2013 to 2015.

Even though I still have over 10,000 kms of warranty remaining, the three years ran out on August 25, 2017 - one month before the problem was diagnosed.

The local dealers and Nissan Canada say too bad, even though we know and admit putting defective parts in the car when we made it. Pay us $522.70 if you want it fixed.

Buyers of LEAFs, Jukes, and Sentra BEWARE!

If you have paperwork of having brought this concern to the dealer to have looked at prior to August 25, 2017, then it should be covered under warranty and you will have an avenue for legal recourse. If you don't, then try calling Nissan's customer service hotline for assistance and/or posting your dissatisfaction with the issue on Nissan's Facebook page. If you were a regular customer with a dealer, you could try talking to the service manager, sales manager and/or general manager about Goodwill warrantying the repair. Even if they or Nissan only cover half of the repair cost, it's still better than footing the whole bill. If they still won't do anything, I would get an independent repair shop to install a set of KYB Strut-Plus (#'s SR4399 & SR4398). They are a complete, assembled, strut assembly with a limited lifetime warranty made by the OEM supplier to Nissan.
