Altima's rpms goes up and down after car warms up. I need help please!!!
Hello all!
I’m new to this site and I feel like I’m going crazy working on my husbands Altima. It's a 1998 Nissan Altima 2.4L that the engine idles fine cold but after it warms up the rpms start going up and down by itself. If I put the car in drive and ease on the gas it stalls. If I put the car in drive and take my foot off the brake, the car will pull itself. I checked/tested all the fuses under the hood and under the dash on the driver side. I removed the radiator and cap, replaced them with new ones. A friend flushed the engine for me, refilled and burped it. I replaced the Thermostat, after the engine flush before It was refilled. I checked and replaced all the holes and clamps, all are tight. I replaced the Distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. I replaced the Fuel filter on the fire wall and checked the pressure on the rail. I cleaned the throttle body 3 or 4 times now. I replaced the EGR sensor 3 months ago. |

Welcome! You may want to post on the tech section so more people could notice it.

Thank you. I had to deal with a family medical thing, first I've been able to get back to this. My son has looked up a few things for me to check on but he doesn't do the hands on work. Thanks again

Check for an air leak at the intake manifold gasket. Get a can of carb and choke cleaner and spray around the intake manifold with the engine running. When you hit the spot that is leaking you should notice a change in engine rpm.

Thanks mpe 235, I think that problem is fixed but won't know until I can get the car running. I will try to get this post over on the tech form but need to run family member back to doctor. Thanks again for your help.
