Cool 2005 Nissan Teana - what is it?

I am in New Zealand and have bought a 2005 Nissan Teana. It has a 2.3l engine. OBDII readers won't read the port and the engine check light is on. I can't find any real technical info/manuals for it. It is a Japanese model apparently. Anyone know which US model best matches this thing. Thanks!

It appears to be built on the FF-L platform. That underpins the US's Altima (2002-2006), Maxima (2004-2008), Murano (2003-2007) and Quest (2004-2009). Size-wise, it sits between the Altima and Maxima. We don't have the QR23DE engine in the US, rather we have the QR25DE. It would have come with a 4-speed Jatco automatic transmission. It's a "J31" model, made from 2003-2008. As to why you can't get codes from the OBD II port, I don't know, unless the ECM is bad? I'm not going to jump to that conclusion because I've never worked on Japanese domestic (or, New Zealand market) vehicles.
