Default 2004 Frontier "headscratcher" malfunction

I have a '04 supercharged automatic. On occasion at around 30-35mph it will act like it has gone into neutral. Truck is in gear but no forward momentum even when I stay on the gas. Also when I stay on the gas the engine acts like it has a rev limiter on it. Can shift into neutral, give it gas and back into drive and the truck does fine until it does this again (sometimes moments later and sometimes not for another 3 days). Now having this issue at highway speeds but feels more like a missfire than going into neutral. Will see the overdrive light flash several times, on occasion, when first started. Also with this problem the cruise control has been working on and off. Have replaced the speed and knock sensors but no luck. Been to my mechanic with no luck and now has been at the dealer for 4 weeks with no end in sight, I would welcome any suggestions?

Also initially had check engine light on and told to replace knock and speed sensors. Been done. Mechanic has hooked remote computer to truck, driven it, the truck malfunctioned and neither the on board or remote computer noticed anything.

When was the last time you serviced your transmission (fluid, etc.)?

It almost sounds like the transmission is low on fluid. also check all the electrical connections at the transmission.

I bought the truck last year and it had 31K on it, I have put 8k on it since. Never changed transmission fluid but will try this. Could I expect a warning light if the fluid was low?

Unhappy frontier low trans fluid

Sorry man, no such warning lite or trouble code for low fluid on your truck. there are codes for elect/machanical faults. a good shop can pull those codes as well as doing a complete trans flush. PS. There are NO trans filters in nissan transmissions, only a magnet in the trans pan. Good luck.:(

Thanks. The Nissan mechanics are replacing the speedometer in hopes that it gets rid of the O/D light flashing and they have a small outside hope that it stops the mechanical problem as well. If not they do not know what else to do. I brought up the transmission issue and they did not think that was a problem.
