04 Frontier 4cyl 5sp RPM's too high?
Hello, I just bought an 04 Frontier 4cyl 5-sp. It has 20K miles. I am a little concerned about the way the engine is running. While shifting gears, the RPM's seem to stay up; they don't immediately drop like my old truck's engine did. The RPM's do drop, but very slowly. An example would be if my RPM's are at 2500 when I shift from 1st to 2nd, they will stay at 2500 after the clutch is pushed in, then slowly drop. I don't know if this is a characteristic of all Nissan 4 cyl or if my truck has a problem. Thanks for any advice or assistance.

You should try adjusting the idle.
Before Idle Adjustment: -Visually check the following: -Air cleaner clogging -Hoses and duct for leaks -EGR valve operation -Electrical connectors -Gasket (intake manifold, cylinder head, exhaust system) -Throttle valve and throttle position sensor operation 1. Stop engine and disconnect throttle position sensor harness connector. 2. Start engine. 3. Rev engine (2,000 to 3,000 rpm) two or three times under no-load, then run engine at idle speed. 4. Adjust idle speed by turning idle speed adjusting screw. M/T : 750 +-50 rpm (in Neutral position) A/T : 750 +-50 rpm (in P or N position)

Thanks nisstech, I will give that a try. I have thought the idle might be a little high. It looks as though it is at about 850-900 from the tach.
