A bad vacuum booster would cause a hard pedal, not a mushy pedal, so it's not that. Bleeding procedure is important on these vehicles, so check the service manual. IIRC, it goes right-rear, left-front, left-rear, right-front. I use a vacuum bleeder, which works well if you don't have a helper. That all said, the brakes on these vehicles don't offer the best "feel" and many people complain about them. There is one company that offers a master cylinder to correct the issue, but I believe it's for the V6 models and I don't know if it'll work on the 4-cyl. models.
