Turbine Speed Sensor Replacement P0717 Code
Just bought a 07 Frontier SE Club Cab 2WD - 91K miles
Is showing P0717 code Input Turbine Speed Sensor - No Signal 1-2 upshift a little harsh but otherwise seems to shift OK. Reset but comes back after about 15 miles or so. Tried to find info on various website and forums on how to replace. Consensus seemed to be that it was located above the valve body/TCM in the transmission. Only part that I could find was trans revolution sensor 31935-97X00. Ordered it and downloaded section of shop manual for removing valve body. Dropped pan and removed valve body today SURPRISE The "revolution sensor" that I received only plugs into the valve body but is actually located in the tailshaft and requires removal of entire tailshaft housing. The 2 "turbine speed sensors" are mounted on top of the valve body/TCM. Don't see where they are replaceable separate from the TCM (which costs over $1000). The code diagnostics seem to indicate "turbine speed sensor" rather than "revolution sensor" so tearing the tailshaft off to replace that sensor seems a waste of time. Any ideas on replacing the turbine sensors without a new TCM? |

I don't have an idea as far as replacing the sensors without the TCM, but they do have reman. TCM assemblies for this transmission that run about $550-$650 plus core. There are several different versions of the valve body, which you'll have to know in order to get the correct one, but it would save you several hundred dollars.
