Check for fuel pressure. The hose may have come off at the bottom of the sending unit.

Are you referring to the fuel pump itself as the sending unit?

I've seen a number of fuel hoses fall off inside the fuel tank after a fuel pump replacement. If you hear the pump running, it's either that or the pump, itself, is no good. You may want to check for recalls before you go back in and make sure the fuel sending unit recall isn't open for your Frontier. You can use this site:

Dropped fuel tank out again and connected a power source to the fuel pump electrical connector, (pump is in new tank) and ran pump and it pumps a nice steady stream of fuel. Checked fuel line and return line on truck for obstructions and found none. Could the fuel pressure regulator be bad? Thanks for the help.

Check whether the connector to the fuel pump is supplying positive voltage - I think not. Then see if you blew a fuse somewhere in its circuit, and there are fuses under the dash and behind the battery.

First, you might want to replace the fuel filter if you haven't done it already, to make sure it's not clogged. If the fuel pressure regulator failed to cause it to not start, it would have to be stuck open to not allow fuel pressure. You can test this by clamping off the return line from the fuel rail. Better would be to have a fuel pressure gauge installed to actually be able to read the fuel pressure, which should be 34-36 PSI regulated and around 45 PSI static pressure. If the pressure is good and it still won't start, it may be something other than the fuel pump. You can use a noid light to check for power and pulse to ground at the fuel injectors. Make sure spark is getting to the spark plugs and that the plugs are not fouled. Make sure you have engine compression.

OK here's the skinny, 2 new fuel pumps that didn't have correct pressure. One bought on line one bought at chain auto parts store. Had to get truck to repair shop as My garage was crushed from a tree that fell on it during MN tornado and I didn't have time to work on truck anymore. Repair shop installed a new brand name pump and truck runs perfect. Moral of the story: don't try to save a $ with cheap parts.

I stick with genuine manufacturer parts whenever possible when it comes to fuel pumps or ignition components.
