Default 2000 CC 4WD XE AC issues

Lot of details....
The AC doesn't come on immediately. It usually comes on after going over a speed bump or a driveway curb while backing up. It will not switch from vent to recirculate but the light on the control will go on and off. As I brake the AC will blow stronger...like it is trying to go into recirculate mode. While driving, usually at highway speeds, there is a noticeable "click" and the truck will lurch slightly, as if the compressor is engaging. This happens every minute or so at speed.

Does this sound like a relay?
Thanks

I'd recommend to have a shop knowledgeable in AC check this out. They will recover and weigh the refrigerant, and add the correct amount by weight (important), you'd be guessing. After that, shop can check your high side and low side pressures, and determine whether you have an AC clutch engagement issue. They should check out your fan clutch too.

Very well could be a relay. You'll have to find out which one it is. On my 95 it's on the passenger side fender - the center one of 5. Remove the relay (with truck off) and look at the sockets the relay plugs into to see if any are recessed. If so try to push them up so the lock back into the socket. You can also check the relay coil with a meter on the ohms scale. Look at the diagram on the side of the relay to see what pins are for the coil. Then check - you should get a short. There is much more detail in the service manual for your truck which should be available via a link on this site.

sounds to me like a dirty connector or corroded wiring. Always start at the most obvious.
