Newbie here, so if I should have not posted this here then please direct me to the correct forum.

My '02 overdrive no longer engages with the switch, any suggestions how to troubleshoot? Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

We are all newbies in this forum.

Does the overdrive light comes ON when you press the switch? If it does it means that you may have a mechanical problem. You should start by checking the transmission fluid level and condition. When was the last time you change the trans fluid?

The light does not come on. Is there a relay or fuse to check?

No fuses or relays, the switch connects directly to the transmission control module. It possible that the switch is not working properly. I have attached an image from the service manual on how to check the switch. I hope that helps.

Hmm.. any idea if the 04 quest is wired the same way? My shifter handle has come loose and just pops off at times. I see copper contacts on the bottom of the shaft and no wires or connector. My OD apparently no longer engages and I'm thinking this may be the problem.

Default No Over drive

I am having this problem as well. The diagram helps a little, but I am still not sure where to go from there. Did "rege717" ever figure it out or get it fixed? If so how?
Thanks for any additional help.

My daughter has a '98 Pathfinder. On that, the overdrive is on unless one pushes in the button to cancel it.

Default OD

Weird that no one has posted a fix to this problem in over 1.5 yrs.

Brand New on the forum. I'm on a 3 day love it or leave it deal on a 2002 Crew cab Frontier 4x4 with super charger that has 58K miles. This truck is having the same issue, no light nothing happens when pressing the button. Didn't notice until 8:30 pm and 15 miles from the dealership. I'm taking the truck to Nissan tomorrow morning (got it from a Toyota dealership) for an inspection to see if it is worth buying and I will post what they say.

Thanks.

Default D'oh

Went in today and had my truck inspected. All Good! The bad. In order to diagnose the problem they would have to charge $100 to hook their computer up to see if there is a reaction to the button being used. I'm not going to pay dealership prices so when I get to it I will take it to my mechanic and go from there. I will get it fixed and I will post the solution to my problem. I was told most likely the button by the service guy.

Default Neutral Safety Switch.....Nissan Frontier 2000

I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier 4x4 and I parked it Friday night got up Saturday morning no crank or nothing. I have to bypass the NSS in the relay box to get it to start. And my OD light doesn't come on now and it wont shift out of 2nd gear. Could all this be from the NSS Neutral Safety Switch. I am leaning towards a quart of gas and a pack of matches....................

I wonder if something is loose in the shifter, because that could account for all three issues.

Unfortunately, I'm relatively inexperienced with anything dealing with automatic transmissions.
