1997 HB pickup engine swap or rebuild
1997 HB pickup engine swap or rebuild. Is there a bolt in swap (engine and all related items) for more power or would it be cheaper to rebuild (who makes a good rebuild kit)

rebuild will cost more money and may take more time
it might be easier to put in a used engine, I'm not sure where you live but there are low mileage engine directly from japan with low miles here in California. |

KA24E's tend to be a little pricey used for Hardbodies, I would imagine jumped timing chains may have something to do with that. I usually see good examples running in the $650 range, but you may be able to find one for less with some searching. Keep in mind the 96-97 models used distributors with integral coils and 95 and earlier used external coils and I believe there is differences in the front cover. Check before you drop it into the engine compartment in case you need to swap anything over.
As far as bolt-in upgrades, the easiest would be a KA24DE from a 240SX or Frontier. The will use the same mounts and bolt to the trans, but keep in mind you'll need to swap the ECM and wiring harness. Wiring Specialties makes conversion harnesses for many of the popular Nissan swaps. |
