Default New Frontier to me, shifter lock issues.

I just bought a 03 Frontier XE, CC 4x4, automatic.

The "shift lock" is making it really hard to get the car out of park, into gear.

Is there a method that makes it easy or do I need to take it apart and adjust something?

The shifter does seem to be a little out of alinement, it can sometimes be difficult to tell if it is in neutral or drive just by looking at the red indicator.

Any help for this newbie would be awesome.

Usually if the shifter was out of adjustment you may have a problem starting your Frontier in park. From what you describe the problem sound more like the shifter it self is damage. Sometimes when fluid is spill on the shifter, the shifter gets sticky and hard move our of park. I suggest removing the shifter bezel and try cleaning and lubing the shifter with WD40.

Question, does the stop light comes ON every time you press the brake pedal?

Clean and lube:
