Default 2002 fronty XE 2.4L 2WD Brakes

Anyone have this issue?:

When depressing brake pedal while driving, and come across a bump or pot hole, sounds like the master cylinder ticking and pedal starts to pulse and loose most braking ability.
Perhaps part of the ABS system's snafu?

It can be dangerous I suppose, but never had any incidents ( yet) due to the issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks G47, but I don't think its a self check result. It happens at speeds above 16MPH and after being driven a while, like there is one spot on a off ramp of a freeway where the pavement has a bump, and depending on the speed and when I depress the pedal it can have the afore mentioned characteristic. Or if I've been driving around town, and depress the pedal into a turn, and a pot hole ( does not have to big one)is present it will do the same.

The abs is engaging for the wheel because it has been statused as locked up by the wheel speed sensor. My 05 does this all the time going over speed bumps.
