Calipers seem stuck on both front wheels
They easily retract with a vice but stick when the brakes are again used. This happened on a Ford pickup a long time ago and the problem was the master cylinder. Could this be so or is it the calipers. The back brakes are fine.
This is on a 1997 Nissan pickup that has been sitting for a while. |

It could also be the clp'rs sliding mounts sticking not allowing the pucks to relax and the clp'rs to find their center. A little grease on these slides wouldn't hurt before you go after the hyd side of things. Else yep, it could be the MC.

Changed out the calipers, master cylinder, brake hose lines, brake pads, brake shoes and it is still happening except I discovered it also includes the back brakes as well although not quite as bad. Power Booster maybe?

Don't forget to flush out ALL the brake fluid,
This could cause problems with sticking brakes too. best of luck, G |

caliper issue
Gatorgar - You need to find out if its a pressure issue or a mechanical issue. When the cal's "stick" can you pop open a bleeder to release them? If so the problem is on the hydraulic side, if not, then the slides on the caliper frame's need to be serviced.

I think JD has it there gator... Do break free the bleed nipples first, then re-tighten them for the test. That way, it will be easier to see the fluid escape, AND would allow you to re-tighten BEFORE air gets back into the nipple.
Late '90's GM vehicles had a problem with liners INSIDE the lines collapsing when the pedal was released. This would allow fluid pressure at the calipers to hold, since there's no 'return' spring. That would show when you open the bleed nipple. Check for free caliper assembly movement first. Pull the rotor, to give more room to check for free movement.

Any chance that someone adjusted the brake pedal rod at some point in time prior?
