Default radom misfire after timing belt install

2000 frontier had timing belt replaced and truck hesitates during acceleration and idiles very rough. Had timing belt checked for proper install and every thing was ok. I have since replaced plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter and knock sensor. Truck still runs rough and service engine light still pops on, code for random misfire. Thinking maybe catalytic converters? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Had the same thing happen with a 2000 V6 3.3 liter . ended up changing the distributor.

I agree with Shovel, it does sound like a bad distributor.

Did compression test, pistons 1,3,4,5,6, are at 170 piston 2 is at 60, going tear into it today. First to check mechanic's work on timing belt and then to check number 2 piston. Thanks for your help i really hoped it was a distributor.

Unfortunately- that's called a worn out cylinder, head-gasket problem, or a valve that's burnt.
If you had a mechanic do the belt are you doing the tear down inspection (or another mechanic)?

If you have access to an air compressor get #2 cylinder on TDC compression stroke and put air pressure into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Air leaking through the throttle body = burnt or bent intake valve, Air through tailpipe= bad exhuast valve , Lots of air in crankcase = bad rings . If the air goes into the crankcase squirt a little engine oil in the hole and spin the engine over several times then come back to tdc and recheck. You may also want to recheck the compression after adding the oil. If the rings are weak the compression number will improve . 60 psi is low but not completely dead. The rings can float around on the piston and if all the grooves get lined up that can produce that kind of number.

Just another thought for arguments sake if #2 cylinder was causing the problem wouldn't the fault code be for a misfire on #2 cylinder instead of a random misfire?
