Default Recycle air button won't stay on

I own a 2001 frontier XE and recently noticed that when I press the recycle air button the green lights go on, but they turn off and the recycling of air stops when I let go. It won't stay on! Has this happened to anyone and is there a quick fix?

Do you have it set on floor or defrost?

I've tried it on the floor and straight ahead again and still nothing. I know that if set to defrost the recycle air button will automatically shut off. In my case I am worried that it may be a faulty switch.

Recycle is working again. Some kind of miracle. I had the A/C on and held the recycle button to cool the cab quicker. When I released it, it stayed on. Only now I am scared to switch back to fresh air. The recycle air will stay on for now.
