Default 4.0 engine knocking

My 05 4.0 has a significant engine knock when cold and just off-idle acceleration. It sounds like rod bearings or pistons. After the engine warms up (about 5 mins) the sounds are gone. Any other experiences out there with this ?

Remove the belt and run the engine. I have seen alternators on these make noise that you would swear was an engine knock. If the noise is gone with the belt off then it's not the engine.

Also, what oil filter are you using? SOme folks have had issues with a bad filter causing noises similar to this. Try replacing the oil filter.

Thanks for the tip about the belt, I'll check it out but I have doubts . I've used the OEM and Fram TG7317. (it's not the filter as the noise has been there for close to a year. and I average 4-6 oil and filter changes a year)
