frontier intermittant clatter
Hope this is the correct forum but I would like to pick anyone's brain who might have an answer. My 2001 4 cyl king cab frontier has an issue. Without warning (no noise or rough running) the oil light came on and then about 10 seconds later it started making a terrible racket. Since the oil seemed a bit low I bought a couple quarts and put it in. The truck started fine and ran fine for about three miles then it started again. I pulled in over and had it towed home. Long story short you can start it now and let it run for a few minutes and it sounds fine then the racket starts again. Any how my first thought was bent or thrown rod but, I assume, if that were the case the racket would be constant right? So....thoughts? comments?

If it has an mechanical problem, probably it will make the noise all the time from the time you start the engine. I suggest starting by changing the oil and filter.
