Default 97 GXE Stereo System

Can anyone help me out with any information about updating the stock stereo system without sacrificing the functionality of the steering wheel and rear seat audio controls? I'd like to keep the factory radio and install my amp, sub woofers and replace the stock speakers.
Thanks!

You should just get an amp, buy a converter from speaker wires to RCA, connect the RCA (speaker wires from stock radio converted to RCA) to the amp and the connect new speakers to the amp.

Here is an example: Scosche SLC4 Four-channel line output converter at Crutchfield.com
