Default Trip computer external temperature sensor

Just got my first Nissan about a month ago and I love it, but I'm having a baffling (if minor) problem.

The trip computer refuses to display anything remotely close to the correct temperature. If it doesn't read "----", it'll tell me it's zero degrees out or something rediculous.

I replaced the sensor (under the front cross member in front of the radiator), only to have the same problem. Both sensors read approximately the same resistance. One wire in the connector reads 4.77 volts to the negative terminal on the battery (a good voltage for computer sensor stuff, according to my schooling). That same terminal reads 7.75 volts to battery positive (7 3/4 + 4 3/4 = battery voltage). The other terminal reads zero volts to battery negative and roughly 3 volts to battery positive. I'm pretty sure that's my bad wire, but I can't even begin to think of where to start for fixing it.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
