Angry Brake Problems

My 06 Armada has problems with the brake senor light coming on and the ABS system start acting eratic, vibaration under dash and pedal moving back and forth been to dealer 5 times, is in right now. When the car is stoped and restarted all problems vanish. Until the next time it happens, I drove the car and it with just a touch to the pedal the brakes would just lock up. Its unsafe because there is no warning when it happens. Its has the new program in the computer from the May 06 service bulletin. The dealer has called engineering and they cant fix over phone so they are flying in to Houston to try to fix it. Of course Nissan USA has not been any help I e-mailed serveral times with no response. The problem started at around 5000 miles the first dealer changed out the ABS actuator this was not the probelm it took them 23 days just to get the part. The second dealer thought mabe the brake booster. I think its a computer hard ware or software issue because once its re-started it goes back to normal. When it happens there are so many codes its impossible to narrow it down. I am at 10300 miles now. HELP

have seen a simular issue with abs system and found that can-com wires were rubbing on the driver's seat mechanism. more common with auto driver's position because it will move forwrd and back every time you enter or exit the vehicle. look at the harness under the seat for damaged wires or insulation. enjoy the ride!!

Unhappy 07 Armada - Loss of brakes; brake light on.

Have a 2007 Armada, its 60 days old with 1800 miles and its happened several times where the Brake light goes on; brake's feel like ABS kicked on and the brake pedal goes to the floor with about 20% of braking ability (Loss of 80% of brake power!!!).

Its been at the dealer now for 3 days, same story: replacing ABS Actuator, Brake booster and something else. Hope it does the trick, but only time will tell.

Your dealings with Nissan sound very familiar...I was assigned a "regional specialist" for Houston by Nissan USA. Nissan seems to care less that I spent all winter with a heater problem they (including the engineer they flew in to inspect my car) can,t fix. And I now have A/C issues. And as you know it gets HOT here! I think there is something faulty in my entire system. They too have said they get all these codes and have spent days tracing codes to see why my heat works at times and not at others. I started having issues at 1300 miles. and now have 11, 000. My latest problems with the a/c started in April and resurfaced again this weekend. Good luck with your engineer...they did nothing for me. And lemon law is a joke...we would be out money once you figure paying for the mileage, current interest rates etc.

Just found this forum today and I have JUST returned from Nissan with the same problem of the brake light coming on while driving my 05 Armada. Went straight to a Nissan that I have never been to before. Would not let them turn off the SUV till they saw what it was doing. That way I didn't look crazy as I explained what was going on. Well they ran a check and found it to be the break booster. It is a problem that Nissan knows about, but I think you have to be at the right Nissan to get them to figure it out. So on Thursday, my new part should be in and I can finally get this fixed. The first time it did this, I refused to drive it and made Nissan send a flat bed tow truck to pull it in. Of course the problem had reset itself and they couldn't find anything wrong. I hope everyone gets this fixed as it could be dangerous if someone in front of you slams on the brakes and they brake problem occurs.

Angry ABS/ Brake problem

This has happened twicw with my wife's car. First time about a month ago with me driving and again last Friday with my wife driving. Going to the dealer tomorrow but I've already filed a complaint with the DOT and started a case. I would urge everyone having this problem to call and file a case. The DOT hotline # is 1-888-327-4326. This is a deadly dangerous problem and is going to get people killed if they don't fix it. The discouraging part is I've not read any post that the problem has been permanently fixed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Our 2006 Armada has done this twice in the last 2 days. My wife drives our 1 year old, 8yo and 13yo in this vehicle everyday. What a risk that is to drive your children around if brakes failed completely. We live in the Houston area. Does anyone have a recommendation on a dealer in the Houston area to take in for service?

Try Sterling Mc Call Nissan in Stafford, they have a good reputation for Service.

Has anyone had any resolution with their brake problem. I was almost in a serious accident because the brakes failed on my 2004 Armada, for the 4th time. Any help would be great!

I have seen some problems with loose front wheel bearings causing the abs to activate for no reason.

I have the same exact problem with my 2004 Armada, and have been through the "Run Around" with the Baker Jackson Nissan in Jersey Village (Houston Texas). I must look absolutely crazy to them. It happens rarely, and after you restart the vehicle, the problem disappears. I suspect the brake booster as well. I can tell when it's about to happen, because when I first start the vehicle, I hear a "Spring-Like " sound, when I haven't even moved yet. I just turn it off, and restart it, and it goes away.

I went to Clear Lake Nissan and they diagnosed it quickly as a necessary upgrade to the braking software. They suggested it to me before I found out about this site so I didn't have to mention it to them.

Unhappy RE: Same Brake Problems Here

I also had them same problem multiple times on mine. Dealershipship thought I was crazy. The problem always stopped when I'd shut the car off. Happened again on Christmas Eve on way back home to see my folks. This time stopped into the same dealership at 4:45 PM (I pass the dealership on my way home, they were nice enough to look at it.) Hooked up a diagnostic machine and told me I needed new software. Got the software DLed into it and hasn't happened since.

Good to hear you got it fixed Drudian. For us, the software problem also messed with the traction control system, but not since the fix was applied.

Patman, our car was still under warranty so it didn't cost me anything. I would be very surprised if they charged you anything since they aren't doing any mechanical work.
