2004 Maxima has only 12900 miles on it and it shimmies @ 70 mph. Dealer says it's the front tires & wants a little over $600 for 2 new tires. They say we're 400 miles over warranty, but I feel there is something wrong with these tires. Either Nissan or Goodyear ahould solve this problem. What do you think?

Nissantech, Thanks for the advice, but have been calling them since Friday(Aug. 26). Nissan reps have been very nice & friendly, but they have bumped my problem to their supervisor, and I've not heard from her. I've left several messages on her voice mail, but no reply.

Guess I'm lucky, I've to 36,000 miles on these tires, but they started making a lot of noise at about 20k miles and now are starting to get splits in the sidewall and I still have plenty of tread left. Even if Goodyear offers to pay half of replacement, which is doubtful, I can buy four Cooper tires in this size, including all costs, for less than $700.00. Nissan made a big mistake using these tires and all that B.S. about being high performance and sustaining 120 mph is really stupid. I just want to drive in still like a normal person with normal tires that usually last me about 65-70 thousand miles.

I'm an old guy and as I recall this is how General Motors treated there customers years ago and you see what is happening now. I won't buy another Max and this is my third one until they call me and talk about tires.

I too have had a problem with the GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A tire. just yesterday I returned to my vehicle to find the front passanger side tire flat. After replacing with the emer. spare, I proceeded to a local tire shop to evaluate the tire. The leaking was from several sidewall blowouts on the inside of the tire as well as considerable cracking on the outside of the tire face. The vehical and the tires only has 15,900 miles. It cost me $300 to get a replacement tire from a GOODYEAR store (as directed by the warranty manuals). The Good year dealer has stated that they send the tire back to Goodyear for eval and any price adjustments that may apply. I am not holding any hope for this, and this incident is just ONE more issue of quality I have experienced with my 2004 Maxima. I have had the infamous falling headliner (cheaply attached with velcro), metal rattling from the undercarriage at acceleration, several bullitans listed, dealer still hasn't been able to resolve the issue, repeated Braking issues, pulls hard to one side, brake shudder. Dealer has already attempted to resolve this TWICE, and it is doing it again, CD player ATE one of my cd's, took 8 weeks to get the cd back from NISSAN, after repeated calls to the dealer, Has had the STRUT TOWER Insolators replaced because with ever road imperfection that I experienced, the front end of the vehicle felt as if it would FALL OFF at any given time.
The dealer has fed me the typical bull that this was the first generation since the design change and they needed to work out the kinks. At almost 30K for the vehicle, work out the kinks on the factory floor, not on the consumer. This was my 3 maxima, I have had 5 Ford Explorers and NEVER experience the frustrations I have with this car.

I will probably not purchase or lease another NISSAN product unless Nissan makes good on this tremendous piece of garbage I am currantly driving. be advise that there is a law firm that is currantly evaluating case to be brought against nissan for the BRAKING issues. My past experiences have been great, but this vehical, and Nissan's and the dealers lack of resolving issues to customer satifaction, has forced me inform as many of you as possible about what you to could expect.

I have had a history of shimmy with my 04 - and I seem to be going in circles with this.

Since I have over 40K on my original tires (with a spirited driving style) I am thinking of replacing them, and hopefully it will take away the shimmy too (since balancing the tires doesn't solve the problem - or at least temporarily).

It's a shot in the dark, but are there any other 2004 Maxima owners that have had their tires change and had a shimmy problem before/after/during?

dobrowski, in reference to your original message in this post, did you actually change your tires, did it help, if so what tires did you use?

Your comments are greatly appreciated,

regards,

G

I don't know if I am happy or sad to hear people having the same problem I am experiencing. About a month ago, I blew a tire on the highway. I did not hit a curb or a pothole, it just went. After they replaced the tire and did a rotation, I noticed the steering wheel was shaking when breaking at high speeds. Not a lot at first but it got worse as time went on.

On Monday I noticed my front driver tire looked a little low and at closer examination, there was a crack in it. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the break rotors and the daytime headlight. (That thing burns out a lot!) I was then told the tires have been recalled but since there is a strike at Goodyear, the tires are on backorder. They patched the crack and put me on a waiting list. They also told me I may be able to get some money back from the tire I replaced. I have been looking for information on this recall but can not find it anywhere. Anyone seen any info on it?

Time to start hunting for some tires….

Nissan doesn't make tires. The tires are made by goodyear. Also the vehicle manufacturers don't warranty the tires, the tire manufacturer does. Goodyear should be the one to correct this issue. This kind of sounds similar to the firestone recall. I have seen several maximas with this problem and agree it should be fixed at no charge to the customer but Goodyear needs to be the one to foot the bill. After all Nissan buys the tires from goodyear. If any of you owned a business and sold a product that you purchased from a supplier and found out that it was defective would you pay out of your pocket to replace the product for them. Sounds to me like someone should start a class action lawsuit against Goodyear.

purchased a 4 set of these for my 2001 max se at $101 each from discount tire direct pretty good price considering....

but now that i have about 20,000 they are really starting to create a lot of noise....i hope it is the tires instead of the struts, bearings etc

this is my 6th maxima and i am like you guys...I am frustrated at several issues including burnt out lights on the speedometer and tach..it goes off and then comes on at random ...did it on my '96 too

I feel Nissan has that GM syndrome like suggested above....
time to find a car manufacturer that loves its clients!

Gosh I thought I was the only one with the exact problems as everyone else. I purchased my car in February this year and when I test drove it I knew something was wrong with the tires. I've only had my car 7 months and I've had I dont know how many balancing/rotations only to be recently told the tires are a piece of crap, need to be replaced because they are at the wire! I think we might be in luck though....I recently recieved a letter from Goodyear stating that the tires for the vehicle are defected and they will replace free of charge (to any goodyear retailer) or that if they have been replaced they will refund your money back with the proper documentation (a reciept stating that the tires were replaced because of tread seperation) the 800 number is 1-800-321-2136. Good luck!

I have a 2000 Maxima SE. I got over 40K on my original Bridgestone Potenzas. When it came time to replace tires, the Potenzas were over $900 for the set after taxes, etc. I did a lot of research and ended up buying Toyo Proxes TPTs for a little over $600 and I could not be happier with them. Just an FYI when you are shopping for tires.
