2002 altima starting problems
It doesn't always start hard, just sometimes. When it does start after cranking for a while, it will backfire and after a few seconds the car will run fine. When it has a problem starting, it will last for maybe a week and then no problems. I do have to add 1qt. of antifreeze when this happens. I've had the car to dealers and a independent garage and no one can find anything wrong. I've asked about the head gasket and they all say that nothing is showing up with their tests. Any ideas?

With all those symptoms I'm very surprise that no one have been able to find the problem. What was the dealer diagnosis?
I agree with you, if the engine is loosing all that antifreeze, then most likely the engine has a blown head gasket.

At the time the dealer had the car, it was starting fine and they said nothing was wrong. We got the car back and within a couple of days, it was again having starting problems. So this problem comes and goes. Could the head gasket only leak under certain conditions or if it is bad it would leak all the time?
