Ignition Coil Problem
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima and the ignition coil was burned. My mechanic just change the three burned ignition coil but after driving for a couple of days, the new ignition coil burn again. Does anyone has encountered this kind of problem? Please help.

Yes, the problem is usually a bad ignition system ground. (See Figures 1 and 2) If the ground is OK, you need to check for a voltage drop at that ground point and if is out of specs you may have to add another ground from the battery to the engine.

Check the negative battery cable where it connects to the transmission. It is common for it to break off at the transmission. The same cable is also grounded to the body. When they break off they melt coils.

Are you sure they actually checked it. Just because the car starts doesn't mean it is still connected at the transmission. Sounds like incompetent technicians to me. It never should have got to 15 coils.

Sounds like a wiring harness fault...there's no way you should get that kind of carnage without direct access to a lot of current. Just my 2cents.

Cars that "eat" parts like that have other problems that typically cause the failure of those parts. Many times computers and other electronics on cars are damaged from poor or missing grounds.
I've had cars with the same OEM coil for 15+ years on it. Not to say that coils don't fail, but to fail in that manner, you have another issue that's causing it (as stated by others here). |
