front windows rolling down and doors unlocking by themselves on 2007 Altima
I have a strange problem with my Nissan Altima 2007. A week ago the front windows started rolling down and the front doors started unlocking after I turned off my car. I watched this happen with my own eyes about 4 times in a row. The next day I took the car to Nissan and it wouldn't happen. Today it started happening again and I'm hoping it will continue tomorrow so I can show it to them as I don't think they really even tried to diagnose the problem. Just curious if anyone has ever heard of such a problem. I'm definitely not hitting the key fob.

Until a Specialist replies...take a look at this thread: haunted murano?
I found another thread with the same problem (not your car) but no solution: "I have a 2006 G35 sedan and having trouble with the front windows rolling down and doors locking with my keys in the car."

Are you perhaps sitting on the key fob? That has caused wierd problems for me in the past.

Here's a few thoughts - try to isolate the problem to determine if its happening:
- in a particular location/area, that may be caused by nearby radio transmitters from a military base, airport, hospital, or hi-tech center or even a home wifi system. - during a particular time of the day, such as in the morning when everything is cooled off, during the heat of the day, or such as after the engine has heated up or even just cooling off. - is a friend or spouse gaming you and playing with a spare FOB? I've heard of persons messing with neighbor's TV sets through an open window and a identical TV remote control. Good luck, let us know what you find out. Key FOB
I can almost guarantee it's your Key FOB. I had the same problem last year. Got some sand in it, or one of the nieces/nephew stepped on it or something, but my 03 would do the same thing. I took the batteries out of the key fob, and have never had the problem again.
I popped it open, cleaned the key fob out (found some sand from the beach,) but couldn't see anything wrong with the little circuit board, put it back together, and it would still randomly unlock/roll down the windows. I played around with it and found that any kind of pressure on the casing would cause the windows to go down and the doors to unlock. Been without a key fob since. Your best bet is to go to a dealer and have them setup a new key fob for you. |

update
Thanks for the updates
I don't suspect it to be the key fob for one specific reason. The two times it has happened it has been very wet and moist evenings. Both times the problem happened I could duplicate it at will a bunch of times in a row. I didn't want to keep my car outside with the possiblity of this happening so I would park it in my garage. The next day after the car sits in the garage all evening the problem will never happen again. I brought it to Nissan today and they told me they believe the issue is related to a moisture problem with some component within the mechanism that controls the door locking and window. They have to order this part and they are going to do the repairs next week. We'll see if that fixes it. In any case, it seems to make sense to me because both times this has occurred were evenings of wet snow or rain. I can guarantee if this doesn't resolve it I will demand 2 brand new key fobs as well. |

Windows go down by themselves
I just spent a few hours trying to t-shoot this problem. Let's plesae find some commonalities so we can fix this nasty problem.
My front windows stay up if the doors are closed and I remove the key from the ignition. But will open 20 to 90 seconds later. My front windows open immediately if I open either front door. My front windows don't operate properly/consistently from the door switch. Sometimes hitting the window lock button will let the pass side window go up. But not the drivers side. While the front doors are closed, and windows are up, key is out of ignition, you can leave via the rear door without an immediate response. Yet the same 20 to 90 seconds later, the front windows go down. If you have a front door open, key in ignition and go to take the key out, the windows go down immediately, but if you put the key back in and on, they stop. I hear a relay click under the dash when the windows do their thing. Couldn't isolate the relay. If this is a moisture related short in the window lock-out switch, would this cause such weird timing and operational issues? Does the factory alarm have a window down/up mode that isn't deactivated properly in my base model? Last edited by puki01504; 07-30-2008 at 04:31 PM. |

2007/8 Altima - Windows rolling down, doors unlocked
Over the last year, I have been on my wife's case regarding leaving the windows down and the car unlocked... looks like I owe her an apology.
After reading a bunch of postings... I am not too sure root cause was ever established? I made an appointment with Everett Nissan... let's see what they come back with. The customer service agent was very polite & helpful and also mentioned she had not heard of this issue until today. I am very worried as I live in the Pacific Northwest.. to date, we have been very lucky as the windows have not been down during a rain. |

It is possible that it is the door key switch is shorting and causing this incident. This located inside the door. Bring it to the dealer when it happens and have them monitor the switch activation with the consult.

I just bought a new Titan LE two weeks ago. I am beginning to see this problem more and more frequently and it has happened four times now. First time was on the way home from the dealership. Stopped at a grocery store and when I returned, the front windows were down and the doors were locked.
I have no solution to offer but I will keep watching this site. I'll post if I find out what's causing the problem. sjenkinz |

windows
had the same problem with my 2004 maxima. after replacing the master lock which had been defective and i did not know (because i never use the key to open the door). i realised that the cable that attaches to that lock has to have a certain amount of tension on it. if that lock in any way causing the cable to loose tension the windown roll down every time the car is turned off. probably an indicator that your lock's been tampered with ?

There is a switch on the back of the door lock cyclinder. When tis awitch shorts out that is when you problem occurs. As for tension on the cable. the cables are made to certain length and are positioned a certain way to be out of the windows way when moving.
Remove the drivers door panel and there should be connectors down at the bottom left. I do believe a brown and a white connector. The brown one would be the one with poss condensation, but check them all. |
