Question Battery Draining with Ignition Off

I am having a very strange problem with my 2005 3.5L Altima. My battery is getting completely discharged with the car just sitting, with no key in the ignition. I finally traced the current drain to the generator itself. With a fully charged battery, it's draining at a 5 amp rate, and eventually of course it completely discharges the battery. To verify, when I disconnect the cable from the generator, the leakage immediately drops to 0.0.

Also, if I jump start the car, a lot of weird behavior occurs. Engine speed starts oscillating from idle speed up to about 1700 RPM. It ramps up, then drops back to idle, over a period of about 2 seconds. Additionally, the charge indicator warning light comes on, as well as the ABS and TCS warning lights. No codes are being set.

Worn or burnt diodes inside the alternator can cause a reverse current that will drain your battery. I would have that alternator tested. I believe that places like autozone will do it for free.
