Altima won't start in *Wet* freezing specifically
Hello. Thank you for your time in this. I have a bit of a scavenger hunt going on. This will be year 3 of this mysterious issue.
Note: I'm describing the exact conditions needed. Whether it is thought unlikely or not, I assure you, it is the case. I can recreate the problem anytime as long as mother nature gives me wet roads & freezing temps. We have a '05 Altima @ 190k. When winter comes we have an issue getting it to start once it has been driven on wet roads & sat afterwards in freezing temperatures. Feel I need to specifically note the wet portion of this. If we were to drive this car in dry freezing weather, park & attempt to start the next day (never getting above freezing), the car will start fine. If we take the same scenario, driving in sub freezing weather but with slush/wet roads, park the car and come back after 6 hours or so, car will NOT start. This issue is specifically limited to that condition... almost as if moisture is getting somewhere it shouldn't be & causing this until thaw. In scenario 2, car will immediately start after temperatures have been above freezing for a few hours (thaw). Things done: New battery, New alternator. Oil was found in plugs from cap/housing. Replaced. Things proposed: Local mechanic wants to see if timing belt is stretched. I'm ok looking at it but doubtful it solves the issue as that seems like it would be a constant issue, not one limited to the exact parameters I've described. |

Sounds like an electrical problem. I would check wiring connections to the starter, battery, ground .. etc.
Moisture creeps into loose or corroded connections and causes problems. A vehicle that old and that mileage could have a bad connection in many places. |
