2008 Altima ac not working
I have a 2008 Altima sedan with 45,500. Yesterday ac started blowing hot air. I took to dealer said ac compressor needs replaced. Today quit blowing air at all. I noticed the plug from the compressor to the alternator unplugged. Would the dealer unplug this? Any ideas why the air stopped blowing at all? I checked all the fuses. I appreciate any help.

Dealer may unplug to check resistance in the components. When you say not blowing at all you mean at the interior vents I guess? This would be a blower motor problem or a resistor problem. When it blew hot it could be a compressor, refrigerant, or blend door problem. The compressor is probably not the problem. I would test the refrigerant and the blower motor first.

Thanks...I am just really frustrated because the dealer wants 1,270 for compressor and I don't know what to believe. When I brought it to the dealer, it was just blowing hot air out of the vents and then the next day it stopped blowing from vents at all. The lights on the panel still come on. I just want someone who is honest to look at it and tell me what is really wrong with it. My daughter has bad asthma and I can't take her in the car without the ac working. I appreciate any advice or if someone knows a good mechanic in southwest florida, please let me know.

I work at a Sears Autocenter in NorthEast Georgia. I don't know anyone in South Florida. There are 2 parts of the AC system. One is the electrical side and the other is the mechanical side. At Sears we will troubleshoot and repair the mechanical side but we don't usually mess with the electrical other than checking fuses. If you came to us they can check the compressor, pressure test for leaks, and recharge the refrigerant. If all of that is ok then it would be an electrical issue. The main components on that side are the blower motor, the resistor, the blend door, and the dash controls. We don't usually repair any of these items but we may be able to at least narrow it down for you.

I had the same problem.
1. We checked pressure - it was normal. 2. AC relay - OK. 3. Unplugged clutch connector and tested with multimeter - OK. 4. Since the cluth connector was good, and clutch was not spinning - decided to replace clutch. I bougth OEM one from e-bay for $155. I posted a short video on YouTube how to locate and check if clutch is engaging. Start the car and turn on fan and AC. Watch if clutch is spinning. http://youtu.be/0yFIRm_bZqc Here is the second video how we replaced AC clutch. http://youtu.be/P7MWWgLIFGQ I hope it'll be helpful. |

I'm back, few years later...
AC compressor started leaking somewhere and after all oil leaked out of the system, compressor got locked up while I was driving on the highway. This time I had to replace the whole thing. I picked up a complete kit from eBay that included compressor, receiver drier, expansion valve, new o-rings, and lubricating oil. Strongly recommended replacing all of the above components at the same time! Also, replace AC condenser if needed. As usual, I carefully documented everything, so if you are interested, you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE_83xeXr2A |

This happened to me on my way to Wallmart to go buy oil for my car maintenance. The car completely shut off in the parking lot. I was like WTH just happened. I turned on the car and tried to turn the AC back on and it died again. I turned it on for a 3rd time with no air and went and parked got my oil and drove home. My compressor went bad so I went to eBay and bought the refurbished kit you suggested. I could not believe i received it all in 1 day. I finished installing the Expansion valve and the compressor. tomorrow i will install the drier and run a vac to see where i am at. I haven't had AC for 1 month and it is hot as heck here in Florida.
Thanks for your videos. |

Quote:
OK Update for today, swapped out AC Compressor, TXV Valve, and dryer and ran Nitrogen in the system to pressurize to 150 psi with no leaks present. Then proceeded to Vacuum for 1 hour and put in freon and she is blowing cold again. |
