2005 Altima- key cannot be programmed at dealership
I did a dumb thing a couple of weeks ago and drilled a hole in the middle of the handle of my key to put it on my keyring (handle was broken). I’m an idiot, lesson learned. Stuck it in the ignition, tried to turn it, it obviously wouldn’t start. Realizing I am stupid, I sent it off to the dealership to get a new key made.
What should have been a 200 dollar repair turned into 1400. They cut the key and tried to program it and apparently it would not work. They thought it was a problem with the wiring in the ECM, so they ran all the wires and found nothing wrong. They said it might be the ECM itself and replaced it with a new one. Still not working. They’re trying to charge me a ton for labor but I don’t have a car that works. Before I throw up my hands in frustration is there ANYTHING that could be the issue here that the dealership is missing. I have had a persistent problem with the air blowing on max no matter what for about 6 months- they vaguely said that may have had something to do with it. |

Just saw your post today. How did you make out?
If your key worked before you drilled it, either they sold you a defective key or they screwed something up in the programming process. I hope they didn't take you for a ride. |

They took me for a ride alright. I had to pay 500 dollars in labor for a car that still didn't work. I was advised that, "man to man, don't put any more work into this car, you're wasting your money." One day later I took it to a mom and pop locksmith service and they had it running in 10 minutes for 100 bucks. The dealership simply failed to program correctly.

Sorry to hear that.
Don't know if you want to continue dealing with that dealership. If not, I would consider calling the Better Business Bureau or the Attorney General's Office. Maybe let everyone know what dealership it was so we're warned to watch out. I work at a new car dealership and have no mercy for that kind of stuff. It makes us all look bad ......STEALERSHIPS. They might make an "adjustment" to your bill. |

If they charge extra they must be warned by the association so that no dealer charge extra for their services. I got key programmed from yonkers locksmith and they charged reasonable cost than dealers. So that's also the best option to save your money.

The air blowing problem can't be resolved by any locksmith but dealership can't be able to program the key is unacceptable at all. I advise those who are near me to visit locksmith richardson tx if ever come in such kind of problem.
