2007 Altima pcv valve $90.00?
The top cover is off my 2.5 engine so a coil can be replaced. The dealer
wants an additional $90 to replace the pcv valve. Isn't the valve pretty much exposed with the large plastic engine cover off? The new Nissan part is less than $15.00. Are they charging me for labor that is already being done for the coil pack? Thanks |

Yup! that is not part of the job order. Essentially a new job order. If you're over 75k miles its a good idea to replace it.

I believe it to be part of the original job order. I paid them to diagnose a
problem of stumbling and cutting out. The said the coil was bad (leaking) and the pcv valve wasn't working. Should it still be a separate job costing $90? |

$90. is fair. Or for $13 - $15 at NAPA or other auto parts stores and you do the labor. Labor rates I'm guessing about $115 - $125/hr. and I don't know where you are. The Tech gets paid 1/2 hr. whatever his rate is. In reality, mechanics/auto techs don't make what they deserve. Yes, those who take more courses and earn ASE designation earn more.
Folks tell me I'll pay you to fix their car. I said no you can't afford to pay me. What I really mean is: if I say my labor is $50./hr. they say I'm ******* crazy. So only a few and I like it and I do a Z3 and other Beamers and Volks, Mercs and my GM. People don't appreciate repair shops. Granted there are bad folks like other CEO's in other companies. SO KNOW WHO YOU'RE DEALING. IF YOU KNOW A MECHANIC YOU CAN TRUST ITS PRECIOUS. Or Do It Yourself. |
