Default Brake light switch

Where is the brake light switch located on a 2001 Altima? Car did not have the owner's manual when I acquired it and I need to replace that switch.

It's under the dash. Get under the dash and depress the brake pedal and follow the connecting rod as it will hit the switch and you will see it. You need a shop light or flashlight.

It would not have been in the owner's manual, anyway. But, if you want an owner's manual, you may be able to download one for free in this site's "knowledge base." You will also find some of the factory service manual chapters there, as well.

It is pretty high up on that model and a little difficult to get to. Are the lights not working or are they staying on?
If they are staying on it is usually because the rubber stopper on the brake pedal arm has worn through.
