Default Technical Bulletin NTB14-019

This bulletin says that emissions related dtc's will also generate a P-DTC or permanent dtc. A quote from the bulletin below:

"A listing of which DTCs that will also set a P-DTC is found in the DTC Index in the EC-Engine Control section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM)."

I have a 2011 altima 2.5s and have downloaded the factory service manual.
Is this "ESM" or Electronic Service Manual a separate manual? I couldn't find any reference to it on the internet except for very early model altima's (1998, 1999, 2000 etc.)

First off. the "P" in the DTC is Powertrain and refers to Engine, Transmission, and Emissions codes. It is permanent in the sense that it will not go away until the underlying issues are fixed. The U refers to network communication like the Controller Area Network for all OBD II compliant vehicles sold in North America. The "B" for Body which covers a wide range like HVAC, Lighting, Power Doors/Windows, Airbags, etc. The "C" for Chassis like ABS SYSTEMS, Suspensions, Steering, etc.

If you've downloaded the Factory Service Manual by electronics means such as through the internet, then you have the Electronic Service Manual.
