Default '94 Altima occasional hard start

Hi folks,

Every now and then my '94 Altima GXE will take prolonged cranking and some throttle before it starts. In most cases, cranking the engine without pressing the throttle starts the car fine.

The car runs great once it starts. Symptoms:

- With a cold engine, especially in the morning, it always starts immediately.
- With a hot engine (run in and out of the store) it mostly starts immediately.
- With a warm engine, after it has sat for 15mins-an hour or more, it will crank longer and needs some throttle. It will always start though.

Clearly there is a temperature factor in play here. A warm but not hot engine will make starting more difficult. A cold or hot engine, starts the car immediately.

Repairs so far: replaced injectors (the old ones were in bad shape) cleaned the EGR valve and tested it by applying vacuum. The engine throws a bad knock sensor code (can someone tell me how to replace the darn thing?), but that does not illuminate the engine check light. Spark plugs are less than 2 years and 7Kmiles old, spark plug wires are new, OEM. Distributor suffered the dreaded oil leak two years ago and was replaced by the dealer at much $$$.

Any ideas? I have not tried replacing the fuel filter yet, it is next on my agenda.
To me it seems like a fuel delivery issue. Fuel pump? Fuel pressure regulator?

Thanks.

You could be right with your hunch. So Do Fuel Pressure Test. Also be sure your Rotor and Dist. Cap are a Okay.
