Question Crank no start P1610 code

2004 Altima. 2.5 Auto.
Car will crank, but no start.
I get a P1610 code only. Has to do with the nats not reading the key.
Strange thing is I get no security light on the dash at all. I think I should.
Started checking things.
Fuel pump has power to it, but was not coming on. I removed it, cleaned it, bench tested it, and it's working now. I will be replacing it.
Reinstalled it, but same crank no start.
Checked for injector pulse. Nothing.
Seems the nats is cutting the signal to the injectors.

Two questions.
1) Why don't I get a security light on the dash???
2) Any way to reset the nats without taking to the dealer????

Has anyone found a site that tells what the nats does???
How it works???
Inside the box wire diagram would be great.
There must be someway to disable the nats.

Try to use a different key if you have one. Sometimes the key loses its memory and may need to be reprogrammed/replaced.

An immobilizer is an electronic device fitted to an automobile which prevents the engine from running unless the correct key is present. This prevents the car from being hot wired after entry has been achieved.

The microcircuit inside the key is activated by a small electromagnetic field which induces current to flow inside the key body, which in turn broadcasts a unique binary code which is read by the automobile's Engine Control Module (ECM). When the ECM determines that the coded key is both current and valid, the ECM activates the fuel-injection sequence.

The immobilizer function of the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System (NVIS) or Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS) consists of the following:
- NATS ignition key
- NATS antenna amp. located in the ignition key cylinder
- Body control module (BCM) or (IMMU)
- Engine Control Module (ECM)
- Security indicator lamp

try:
This code is usually triggered when a not registered or damaged key is used to start the engine. When the starting operation is carried out five or more times consecutively with the same unregistered key, the system will lock.

If the problem occurs try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes and then try starting the engine with a known registered key. If the problem persist you have to have the dealer erase the code and reprogram the keys again.

download the pdf file below if use ctrl+f to search P1610 for more info

This model uses a red light on the dash for the nats.
The light is on all the time.
My test to see if it's a fuel or spark/timing problem is to sprak starter fluid into the intake.
It will run for a second or so.
This tells me that the spark/timing is working as it should.
It's a fuel problem.
Pulled a code P1610. No other codes stored.
Is there a way to diable/remove/bypass the nats systed????
I found on the web, a unit that will allow a remote start on these cars. It's installed by alarm shops.
I'm wondering if this could be a solution to the nats key problem.

I tried the only other key they had.
Didn't work.
Tried leaving the battery disconnected over night.
Didn't work.
I'm thinking the NATS is locked.
Can a locksmith or repair shop unlock it???
Hate having to go to the dealer here. Not only do they overcharge for everything, but they treat people really bad.

Problem solved. Unknown aftermarket alarm installed.
I was going to get the numbers off the ECU, when I noticed a wire that was not suppose to be there. It was spliced into one of the wires going to the ECU.
I traced the wire to an alarm box under the drivers side dash.
The alarm wires were all connected, but the power plug was not.
Took me a while to remove the box and repair all the wires.
When I connected the battery, the NATS light was off.
Cycled the key to reset it, cranked in and got injector pulse.
Hooked up the fuel pump, reconnected the injector, and it started right up.
No codes in the memory.
The fuel pump was stuck, so it will be replaced. Waiting for it to come in.
Owner probably didn't know about the alarm. He bought the car used.
It was hidden way up in the dash.
Would have saved me lots of time if I had known it was there.
It's not the first time I've had an aftermarket alarm cause problems.
