Default 2002 cranks but won't start

Just bought a non-running 02 altima. It cranks but won't start. It tries to kick over and will sputter for 3 or 4 seconds but then dies. Also, there is a large amount of gray smoke. I changed both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors since I hear this is a common problem. The result was the same. I did notice the crankshaft sensor wiring connector was broken bit still fits and holds tight.

Oil is good. No fluid (other than a little gas) in the cylinders. It is a 2.5

Any thoughts on where to check?

Before replacing any more parts, check is there is fuel pressure and there is spark at the spark plugs. Please report your finding and we'll let you know what is the next step.

Also, when you crank the engine, does the security light stays solid ON or it turns OFF?

Default thanks...

Thanks for the reply Tech.
I will check tonight. One question, what is the easiest way to check the fuel pressure? Is it as unscientific as pulling the full line and trying to start to see what kind of flow there is or do I need to get some sort of instrument to check?

Thanks again

Default fire

We have fire on 3 of the spark plugs. The fourth (furthest on driver side) is intermittent. Even on 3, I would expect it to start and run rough. Not sure how to check and see if there is gfuel getting there. Any insight?

BTW, no security light

When I turn the key, I hear the full pump running. Is there a way to test that it is actually working?

Checked fuel pressure without a guage. Fuel pump is delivering fuel. Ran codes and got the following
P0300
P0101
P1102
P0340

Seems most deal with maf . Cam and crank shaft sensors have been replaced. Anyone here?

If there is a good fuel pressure, camshaft and crankshaft sensors are OK, then you may have a problem with the Mass Air Flow sensor. Try starting the vehicle with the MAF disconnected.

Default bummer

Looks like the head gasket is blown and initial indication is that the engine is toast. Has anyone done an engine swap? If so, what is the level of complexity? Can it be done by a diyer or should I roll (see push) this car into the woods and call it a day?

Sorry to heard that.

It's complicated and requires many tools. At our shop, with lifts, all the tools and a couple of guys to move parts, it takes a couple of days.
