Default 2005 Altima 3.5SL-timing chain or belt?

Does this Altima engine have a timing belt or a timing chain? Car is 8.5 years old, fewer than 14,000 miles. If it has a belt, should it be replaced, even though it has few miles? If it is a chain, it should be good for quite a long time, I assume.

Yes, your 2005 Altima has a timing chain which should last a life time on your engine unless you start having issues where you need to adjust or replace it. Their is also a serpentine belt which connects the alternator, water pump and etc. This serpentine belt is made up of rubber and should be checked for cracks every once in awhile. The serpentine belt is much easier to replace and adjust compared to the timing chain which alot of people literally take the engine out of the vehicle for the maintenance. Below i have posted images of the serpentine belt and the timing chain.

Thanks for the info. My 2000 Maxima had a timing chain, and I supposed the Altima did, since it is probably the same engine design.
