Nissan Altima 2003 throttle body HELP
Hello everyone, this has been a nightmare, for 3 months I have been going to the mechanic for him to fix the following problem, the car goes to idle all of a sudden and when you hit the gas pedal is not going anywhere, the lights go off, not even the wipers works, I took it to one mechanic and he kept cleaning the throttle body and the problem kept going, he has had it already 4 times and cannot fix it, I decided to go to a new mechanic that was highly recommended, then he said he needed to replace the throttle body and he did, I took the car out of the mechanic today and I drove the car for a couple of hours and again, the same problem, could it be that there is no way to fix this, I am so drained I don’t know what to do, I am so tired, it is so embarrassed that every week my car is at the mechanic. PLEASE HELPi

Have your mechanic do the Idle Air Volume Learning procedures. This must be done whenever you remove the TB or disconnect the wiring to the Electric Throttle Motor Actuator. Just click DIY above then your vehicle type and click Engine Control. Print it and give to your mechanic.
Is "Check Engine" light on? Give a bit more description of your Altima. Is it 2.5 or 3.5 engine. Your issue you said, "all of a sudden car goes to idle." You mean your going freeway speed and then car slips into neutral gear and engine just revs by the sound of it and you pump gas and nothing happens. What do you do to mitigate the problem. Do you pull over on the side, stop engine and re-start and back on the road again? |

Hi thanks for your answer, I have a 2.5 Altima 2003, lets say I am driving at 30 mph, all of a sudden the speen goes completely down to 2mph just to say something, then I have to pull over and let the car cool down for about 30 minuts for it to start over, this time lights dont work, wipwers dont work and dashboard light dont work, then I go to the mechanic, "he fix it" and then 2 or 3 days later it happens again....,

Does the "Service Engine Soon" light appear in your dash? Have you replaced the Camshaft/Crankshaft position sensor before in your vehicle?

If the "Service Engine Soon" light is on why don't you purchase a scanner and scan it to get what the code is. So when you post back the code, we have a better understanding of where the issue is.

1. Tell your mechanic to scan ECM for trouble codes then tell us what they are.
2. Have your charging system tested. You might have a failing alternator. 3. What you said before that car all of a sudden goes to idle might actually be a surging idle (goes up and down?). The trouble code might confirm that. |

What are the codes? Sounds like a component is shorting out like the ABS module, Alternator, pposs battery the is draining all power.

It's not so complicated
Ask your mechanic to check the Main Fuse Box (in the engine compartment) for loose connection or not properly inserted fuse.
Or just pull and reinsert 2-3 times all the fuses one by one. If the dashboard goes dim while cranking, check/replace the battery terminals and wires - the thick wires. Good Luck |
