Default 08 Altima Coolant Change

Recently purchased a used Altima and I'll be changing the coolant soon, but have a stupid question.

Do I have to take the cover off to gain access to the plug? I also see a 1 1/2" hole on the passenger side so do I use a slotted screwdriver and turn the plug?

No, ya don't have to take the cover off. On my 2006 Altima, the drain plug uses a phillips screwdriver.

Here are my pics from the coolant change done at 52k miles. It's a 2008 Altima sedan 2.5 S with CVT and was bought used so it's probably still on factory coolant. I recommend having a service manual and wife/girlfriend handy. Hey, you might need a drink and sandwich on a hot day.

1) Turn on the car with heater on highest setting, drive the car up on ramps, set the emergency brake, place on Park. Let engine cool a bit.
2) Under the car, right side, through a hole in the underbody plastic; you'll see the phillips head plastic radiator drain plug. Carefully unscrew.
3) The drain plug is made out of plastic with a rubber gasket. Check the radiator cap too. Clean them off.
4) Once the radiator cap is off it will drain faster. There is a lot of coolant so use a big drain pan you can move into position.
5) It takes a while for the coolant to drain so use a turkey baster to empty the coolant overflow tank in the meantime.
6) This is how much coolant came out at the initial drain. You can turn in the used fluid at some shops or municipal facility for free. Reinstall the drain plug, fill radiator and reservoir slowly with water, and reinstall cap. Turn on the engine and let it run until the heater blows hot. Drain the system again.
7) Reinstall the drain plug and refill the radiator slowly with coolant. According to the manual, you should end up with a 50% ethylene glycol to 50% water mixture.
8) Don't forget to fill the reservoir with 50/50 coolant up to the Max line.
9) A few particles that came out of the engine cooling system. Drain pan was brand new. That's why you change fluids!
10) Close and clean everything up, let the car idle for a bit with heater on, check for leaks, then drive off ramps. Let engine cool and check the radiator and reservoir fluid levels and top off. Check both again the next day before you drive and top off if needed.

The new coolant is a noticeably brighter green. The old coolant was a noticeably darker green. Color is not an accurate indicator so always go with years/mileage change intervals just to be sure.

I did another coolant drain and fill from the 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S radiator. I got on video this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtx3-OQ5lZA

Check that the windows aren't disabled via a button on the master switch (looks like a window with an X through it).

Otherwise, it sounds like you need a new master switch. Do you have a friend who is willing to swap their working master switch with yours for troubleshooting? I haven't experienced this problem or replaced a window master switch in a Nissan so take my advice with a grain of salt.
