Rich air/fuel ratio can be caused by many things. Leaking fuel injector, bad spark plugs or faulty air flow meter are probably the most common causes. If the engine is running rough, try disconnecting one ignition coil at time, if the engine idle gets worst when is disconnected then that's the cylinder that is misfiring.

Black smoke coming out your tail pipe and the misfire are your clues. Is your SES light on?
Remove and inspect each spark plugs to see which ones is/are fouled. Possible HO2 sensor failed. Do a compression test for possible bad head gasket. |

Thanks Benny , My mechanic has done everything he can possibly do to rundown the problem, new spark plugs, MAF sensor , compression test, electrical system diagnostic, cam sensor, checked each coil pack (which were only 2 years old) He told me he can't track down the problem, the car isn't coding, so he has physically exhausted all the possibilities. I was wondering if the ECM could be reset before I remove it for the R & R I mentioned in my original message. My Mechanic is my cousin and has his own garage with many, many years of experience. Like I said; I trust him implicitly, if he says he has done everything he can, I have no reason to disbelieve him.

I have to mention about the coils, I have had to replace a few of them on my 03 because of random misfiring.
You have no codes? What about the check engine light? Air filter condition? Black smoke is caused typically from too much fuel with not enough air. something is very wrong with the engine load reading. It should be close to 0 unless you are giving heavy acceleration, towing, or have a heavy load. almost never see 100% under any other condition. Welcome to the forum |

CPU
My Main reason for checking with the forum was to get an opinion about resetting the "computer" would it need to be reprogrammed or is it reset to factory default just needing to "relearn" things like idling and so on....Looks Like nobody is able to offer an opinion on this issue.
