Trunk Opens Unexpectedly
Intermittently, the trunk opens. It seems to happen more when one of the two key fobs that came with the car are in the vicinity than the other. Perhaps the trunk button is too sensitive so it opens the trunk just from the pressure of being in my pocket or it just sends the single at times on its own to open the trunk.
Any solutions other than a new fob? Thanks! Jaums |

There doesn't seem to have been reports of strange activity with two fobs close together. Fobs in the pocket are another matter. Open windows and trunks have been reported.
A new fob won't solve the problem. Keeping the fob in a pocket that doesn't have anything that could accidentally push the buttons seems to be the only solution. |

How intermittant is intermittant? Sometimes there is shopping bag left over the latch assembly. Sometimes when heavy moisture is present may cause the issue also a remote starter.

It's very irregular. I'll pay attention to the weather factor. We went on a 3 hour trip with both fobs with no incidents, until, after arriving, the trunk was later found open. Other short trips running local errands, it may happen 5 times. Not sure what you mean about shopping bags--what is the latch assembly?

My 2011 Altima sedan did the same thing. Every once in a while the trunk would open on its own. The buttons on the key fob are too sensitive and there is an easy fix.
Under each button on the key fob is a microswitch which is soldered to the circuit board. Take it apart to access the microswitches then take a dremmel tool with a small sanding disk and grind a small amount of material off of the switch pad. It doesn't take much so be careful. Brush off any lingering dust and reassemble. If done correctly, you will now have to press harder to open the trunk and the problem is fixed. I had to do this with the trunk button and alarm button on both of my key fobs and havn't had a problem since. |

My 2005 sentra had the same problem, trunk opening unexpectedly at random times. I fixed the problem by opening the key fob and carefully removing some of the rubber underneath the trunk button that presses down on the switch to open the trunk. I took just enough rubber off so I actually have to press with the tip of my thumbnail to open the trunk. I know it isn't going to open by accident again.
