Default VQ35 - Do They Use any Oil?

I remember when I was looking at buying a new G35 coupe back in 2005, there was a big up-roar on the G35 chat boards about some of the VQ35 engines burned excessive amounts of oil in G35s that were still practically new. According to my research, the 2003 - 2006 G35s used the VQ35DE; same engine as in the 2002 - present Altimas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine#VQ35DE

I don't recall what the oil burning issue was with the G35s, but some of the engines were real oil users.

Just wondering if any of the Nissan models that used the VQ35DE also had oil consumption issues? I searched the forums here and couldn’t find anything.

Yeah, a quart every 1000 miles is what I remember too. I referenced Wiki just to see what cars had the VQ35 series engines used ... it's probalby pretty accurate.

So in a nutshell, what was the cause of the large oil useage? ... bad rings?

Hey, thanks ... that would be cool if you could link the thread. I went over to Maxima.org and looked around, but I'm not registered there so couldn't do a search.

Oh yeah, I definitely monitor all my vehicle's oil (and other fluids) level. I just hope it doesn't eat oil like some of these Maximas or G35s. Here's the oil consumption thread on the G35 board ... it's been going on since August 2006. I had a beater 94 Altima with the 4 banger, and it barely used any oil in 5000 miles. Hope this used 04 Altima I just bought is as tight.
