2004 Altima 3.5 - Reading Engine Codes without Scanner (Help)
I tried (3 times) to follow this procedure exactly as written in the link below, and could not get the ECU to go in to the code reading mode. The MIL ("Service Engine Soon") light just stayed on the whole time. Is the procedure right ... and will it work on a 2004 Altima?

I just check again if the same procedure applies for the 2004 model and it does. It's possible to do it, but it's not easy. Just have to keep trying or run to your local AutoZone and have them read it for free.

Thanks NT ... I'll try it a few more times, this time with a stop watch in case the times listed are pretty critical. Yes, AutoZone is a good idea too ... forgot they have code readers for OBDII.

NissanTech - forgot to ask you something. By using the gas pedal gyration method of reading DTCs, will the ECU show all trouble codes, or just emissions related codes?
Do I need to use a scanner tool to see all stored codes that are not emissions related? Thanks Last edited by Altima SSS; 02-04-2009 at 10:24 AM. |

If i'am right it will only give you the emissions related code. The timing is very important in getting the ECM into dia.mode.

Here's the secret -- during the gas pedal push to the floor and back 5 times, do it as fast as possible ... within 2 ~ 3 seconds instead of within 5. This seemed to work well. No codes came up ... the "Service Engine Soon" light flash sequence gave code 0000, meaning no stored codes. NissanTech/Tech22 - yes, I'll see if I can borrow a scanner to check for any other non-emission related trouble codes. Thanks for the help guys! |
