Rear catalytic converter question
The precat came apart and destroyed the motor on this 02 2.5. The car used about 3/4 qt every 3000 miles when the oil was changed. On a recent road trip of 350 miles the oil was full on departure. 200 miles into the trip the engine needed 3 quarts and used a total of 6 quarts. The car was parked and a Nissan reman engine with 1000miles was bought, owner replaced the engine and car was totaled.
QUESTION: can the rear cat do the same thing to the engine as the precat, and did the oil consumption or precat possibly harm it?
Can the precat be successfully gutted without fear of residual particles. This project has really gotten expensive due to the need for a new dual mass flywheel and numerous other parts, and a precat is not affordable right now.
