Default code u1000

Hello,
I am new to this forum but have been on other Z forums. I need some help and if anyone can help me that would be much appreciated.

I have the code u1000 on my 2003 350z. I believe there is short with my ECU. Is there anyway i can fix this problem or will i have to take into the dealership(no warranty). Since i have no warranty, im afraid they are just going to charge me an outrageous bill. Any suggestions or help would be greatful.

Thanks

well that is an issue with the CAN system communication, could be a connector or harness.

have you done any work recently that may have cut or shorted a wire?

Yes, when i first purchased the car i had a friend install a cd player to the car. I should of checked up on his work but didnt. Today i took out the cd player to find that SOME of the wires were loose and it must have caused a short. I should have installed the cd player myself or have a professional installer do it. Im pretty sure this is the cause of the code u1000.

What can be done here? And thanks for your response.

well it could be nothing, when you do a stereo install in the Z and do not disconnect the battery and do disconnect that little white box connected to the a/c controls you will get codes, I would just ensure all connections are secure and clear the codes and see if it comes back.

I just talked to a mechanic today and he told me if the cd player shorted something, it would be to the cd player it self or the speakers. It would have not shorted the ECM. He told me that he would take a day to check out the car but if he cant find the source, nissan dealership will be my best choice. I sure hope he can find it because i would hate to go the dealership.

Thanks for you help Westpak

I agree that radio wiring should not cause the issue it is more of the other wiring in the area mainly that white box that processes a lot of the signals, and like I said it could just be that during the stereo install the battery was not disconnected and kicked off some codes.
