Unhappy burnt clutch smell

my 2002 xterra was on a incline waiting in traffic when i smelled a bad burning smell.
the mechanic said my clutch was fine now, but should need a new one soon.
68,000 miles. It still smells like burning clutch though less so.
no slipping and i'm afraid to drive.
please help.

Remove the rubber boot from the clutch lever on the bell housing and look inside. You will find alot of dust but an exsessive amount may mean trouble in the near future.
