I just bought the fuel sender part from courtesy nissan. i called about returning it and they said because it is an electrical part, I cannot return. It cost me close to $100. Is there any way I can get a refund from Nissan if they have to repair at the dealer?

Check out the attached website from Nissan. Interesting explanation of what is happening with these in the selected years. Either fortuanately or unfortunately my X was built 02/08, hopefully I won't have the problem, but if I do I have a good argument with this recall why they should fix it...

I called Nissan Canada back this morning with my VIN but unfortunately at this current time my 2005 PF is not covered during this recall..#$$%^&#@@ I am not happy. They did open a case and another team will review my case...I encourage all owners with fuel sending unit problems that are not covered during this recall to contact Nissan and complain...I will also contact the local media...come on everyone put the pressure on.

March 22
Crap - I called Nissan Consumer affairs. My 2006 Xterra is not being recalled - yet. It was made in Aug 2006 - not between January 2006-March 2006.
I told them I got the P0463 code one week after the 3 year warranty mark - but I have 48,000 miles. I got a case number so it is in the Nissan system - maybe that will help. I suggest everyone call and get a case number since they are still crunching the numbers. We have to wait until March 22 for the official recall - until they postpone it or alter it Hopefully in 3 weeks it will be time |

Read through the entire thread. One person lists where to buy the part, another gives step-by-step directions. It should cost you a little more than $100 for the part(s) and about 1-2 hours of your time. The hardest part is to plan when your going to do the repair so you can run your fuel down and it will be less weight to move.

I have a 2006 Xterra. I'm getting error code P0463 and the dealership told me that it will be $600 tio fix, as long as I don't need a new pump, just the sensor. Apparently alot of 2006 xterras were recalled for the exact same problem, just not mine! On the phone with Nissan now...

I hope you are talking to Nissan corporate. Get a case number. Mention all the posts on the internet and the dealers quotes vary by 50%!!! Today was suppose to be the beginning of the official recall (contacting owners) - My 2006 Xterra wasn't included in the recall but I hope they widen it or at least tell all dealers to fix it for $200. I bought the parts for less than $100 so the dealer probably pays less than $50. The labor should be less than 1 hour so that would leave $150/hour labor charge. $600 is robbery! shop around the different dealers,I found a difference on just the part of 50 dollars from one dealer to the next in the same town. They want 100 for the part and 200 for labor if I let them do it.

update:
I called Nissan corp. and they referred my case to the regional specialist who is supposed to call back by eob tomorrow. They didn't want to tell me what happens next but eventually the CSR said the specialist will call the dealership and "investigate". They could opt to include my car in the recall or just tell me tough luck.
I don't understand why you would exclude certain vin numbers when it's obviously the same problem the other 400,000 are having. Thanks for the suggestion, if I have to get this fixed myself I will definitely shop around. The thing I'm not sure about though, is whether or not to get this fixed if I have to pay for it. $600 is alot of money to fix a blinking light. One post said that it resets after 300 miles (not sure if that is accurate). I hate dealing with car problems like this because it always feels like you are getting played. I would hate to trade in my xterra but once they get you in the shop they manage to keep you coming back... |
